A Larger Than Life Story Set in Las Vegas
One of the most popular cities in the world is Las Vegas. Letting loose and having a great time is why people come here from everywhere. When Vegas was originally built it was done so with financing from many mobsters. The city allowed visitors to do pretty much anything they wanted to, thus acquiring the nickname of sin city. Since this time many things have changed, but there are still some larger than life stories that emerge on a consistent basis.
One of the most incredible Vegas stories of all time concerns a group of students from MIT University in Boston. Beating the house in Vegas and winning money while playing blackjack was why these students came together as a group. Through practice they were able to apply the incredible mathematic skills that they were already armed with to this card game. Teams of students were unleashed on Vegas casinos to play blackjack after all of this practice.
All of these teams were very successful in their efforts. They would consist of one player who was there to bet big on certain hands and other players that would signal to the big player when their table was ripe. A table was considered hot and ready for gambling when the dealer’s deck held an inordinate amount of face cards. To determine this, players would count the cards that were being dealt on each hand, before they became shuffled once again.
Millions of dollars were won from casinos over a number of years by using this technique consistently without fail. Technology to help deter this practice have been instituted since this time by many casinos. Although it is not actually considered illegal, if casino staff were to see someone counting cards they would ask them to leave. Either way this story is one of the best examples of tales that could only take place in America’s most sinful city Las Vegas.
