Feeling Those Baby Blues?

The baby blues typically strikes within weeks to months of delivering a baby. When a woman gives birth her hormones immediately start to change.  This is very hard on her body and with the added responsibilities of being a mom the blues can start. Some people are lucky and never experience the blues. Most women get at least some amount of the blues. If you are finding yourself in the blues, there are a few thing that can help you work through it.

Consider asking for help from others is a great start. Express your needs to your husband.  Let him bond with the baby for a while so you can catch a nap or take a shower. Many people are more then happy to assist you if you let them know you are in need of help.

Although it can be hard to get up and get moving again, doing so will help you feel better. Exercise can help to lift your mood when you are suffering from the baby blues.  Exercise releases natural endorphens, which can help your mood. Ask dad to take the baby for a half hour so you can walk around the block with a friend. Remember to keep in touch with the outside world as it can do wonders for your mood.

Reach out and talk to other mothers.  If you can find a friend who has children who are a little older then yours. Find those seasoned moms who have been doing this for years.  They can give you a lot if insight and can help you transition into your roll as a mother more easily. They can also be a sounding board for you to vent too when you feel overwhelmed. Everyone needs someone who understands where they are coming from.

Talk to your doctor if you have any concerns regarding the way you feel. Some people need a little more assistance to get back on par. Some people suffer from postpartum depression these individuals should speak to a doctor. If you feel like you may hurt yourself or your child seek help immediately. Reaching out can be hard during these times of depression, but it is an absolute necessity.
