So You Want To Move To Brazil?

For one reason or another, Brazil is regarded as a magical place by many Americans, causing them to imagine that they would like to someday move to Brazil – either as a second home, or for good – but before you can take that step yourself, you will need to make sure you know a few key things.

Firstly, if you have a travel visa (a “tourist visa”), you can stay in Brazil for up to six months, so before you actually take the steps to move there, you should take the time to travel there for several months (living in or near a residential area – not in a tourist location!) to make sure it will be the right place for you.

There are a number of ways to be able to stay in Brazil year-round (or for as long as you want) if you have traveled there for a few months and still feel that it is a great place for you.

A health visa is one of the best ways to get permission to stay in Brazil year-round; this would apply to you if you have any sort of health condition for which your doctor could prescribe the mild weather of Brazil as a reasonable remedy.

Another visa that will help you stay in Brazil for a large amount of time is an investment visa, which would require you to invest a reasonable amount of money into a Brazilian enterprise; but before you decide this one is not right for you, you should know that you can often get a house approved as an investment – which means you can get this visa if you buy a house!

Finally, if you are a retiree (which does not have any age requirement, but basically states that you must have a pension or an income each month), you can get a visa that covers you.

There are a number of other, less common visas that will allow you to stay in Brazil long-term, but these are the ones most likely to apply to you if you think Brazil might be a place where you would like to spend a large amount of time!
