Taking A Look At Gobies For Your Saltwater Tank

Running a saltwater aquarium of your own can be a fun and rewarding experience, but the one drawback of caring for a saltwater aquarium is the fact that many of the fish are temperamental when it comes to the conditions of the tank, and this makes them difficult to care for. One of the most popular and entertaining of all saltwater fish, however, is the neon goby – and one of the primary reasons for the neon goby’s popularity is the fact that it is one of the hardiest and easiest to care for saltwater fish of all!

If you are keeping a goby in a tank with other fish, chances are, the other fish will be much more susceptible to changes in the water, so as long as you are able to maintain the water well enough to keep your other fish healthy, your goby will stay healthy as well. The main thing you do need to remember in order to keep your goby healthy is the fact that they are shy fish when kept in captivity, and you should therefore avoid keeping them with any fish that are overly aggressive.

Two things that make the neon goby particularly entertaining are the suction organ that allows them to affix their body to the bottom of the tank, and the tendency they have to clean parasites off of larger fish - often going so far as to set up special “cleaning stations” in the tank.

Experts Guide To Saltwater Aquariums!

As most of the food neon gobies consume in the wild comes from the parasites and dead fish they glean from other fish (and because you will not be able to provide them with a full diet in this way in your own tank), you will need to provide them with a diet rich in protein and meats. Feed your neon goby frozen brine shrimp and fish, and this should keep them happy; they will also need a bit of vegetable matter, which you can get them through all-purpose flake foods, and when you feed them what they need and keep them in a tank with fish who are not too aggressive, you will have a healthy goby that sticks around for years and years!
